Evidence of Success
On February 24, 2015 Santiago UNITY students facilitated discussions and activities for the middle school students that revolved around issues relevant to them: violence and substance abuse in the home, depression and suicide, bullying, and how to rise above everyone's expectations and build the life you want to have.
Middle school students at Home Gardens Academy were given surveys to assess their thoughts and feelings of the forum we put on at their school. When asked "What is the most important lesson that you learned from today's activities?" students had some insightful responses:
"The most important lesson I learned from today's activities was not to judge a person by how they look and to take control of your own story."
"I learned that we all have a struggle and that we're not alone."
"Don't judge a person about how they look because you don't know what they have gone through."
"One of the most important lessons I've learned today is that we're all in this together."
The survey is displayed below. The results were overwhelmingly positive. As you can see in the bar graph below, nearly all student responded that with Agree or Strongly Agree to the statements in the survey.
The pie charts break down the student responses for each of the first four statements.
