Connection to the Five Practices of Teacher Leadership
This
project will provide the opportunity to exercise the "Five Practices of
Exemplary Leadership" as described in Kouzes' and Posner's research based
book.
Model the Way - I will set personal examples of what I expect of my leadership students and of my colleagues. We will formulate a common set of values for running the UNITY program and the CommUNITY outreach effort.
Inspire a Shared Vision - Through conversations with the leadership students and CNUSD staff, I will continue to work to inspire a vision of students who have a respectful attitude toward those whose opinions, practices, race, religion, nationality, etc. differ from one's own.
Challenge the Process - We will be entering new territory by working with feeder middle schools and other high schools with lower socio-economic status. I will challenge students to work outside of their comfort zone. Through this process we will also be setting concrete goals and making plans to meet those goals.
Enable Others to Act - I intend to not only enable my students to act by making choices in planning for the middle school forum, but also to develop cooperative relationships with teachers and administrators from other schools so that they can better relate to their students. I will also enlist the support of other staff members at my school site.
Encourage the Heart - This will give me opportunities to encourage the hearts of students, the hearts of Santiago staff members, and the administrators, teachers, and students at other schools.
